The Commission

VCO Coffee commissioned WE Arsitek to design a café interior in Medan that could hold its own in a competitive market where most spaces look identical. The brief asked for something that would read as a destination — a space worth coming to for the environment, not just the coffee.

The Commission — Vco Coffee — WE Arsitek

An interior that expresses the brand at construction level — not signage, not applied graphics, but material quality and spatial logic that tell the story on their own.

Background

Medan’s café market is competitive and visually noisy. Most spaces use the same vocabulary: exposed brick, Edison bulbs, reclaimed wood. VCO Coffee wanted something more considered — a space where the quality of construction was the visual statement.

Design Challenge

Designing a café interior that achieves strong visual identity without relying on applied decoration or trending surface treatments. The brief asked for material quality and spatial logic — both harder to deliver than surface styling, but producing results that age better.

Architecture Solution

WE Arsitek stripped the palette to concrete, metal, and considered lighting. The spatial sequence from entry to counter to seating is deliberate — each zone has its own character but the whole reads as one composition. No applied surfaces, no decorative objects. The construction is the design.

Outcome

A café interior that stands out in Medan’s competitive F&B market — not because it follows a trend, but because it does not. The material quality and spatial logic that VCO Coffee briefed were delivered in construction.
