YES Cafe KNO

Commercial, Kualanamu Area

Type

Commercial

Location

Kualanamu, North Sumatra

The Commission

YES Cafe was commissioned for a location near Kualanamu International Airport — a high-footfall area with a specific customer profile: travellers, airport workers, and local visitors looking for a quality stop. The brief asked for a café that could handle volume without feeling like a transit space.

The Commission — Yes Cafe — WE Arsitek

A space designed for movement — the tempo of an airport-adjacent destination. Quick to read, comfortable to stay, easy to leave.

Background

The Kualanamu corridor is developing rapidly around the airport. Commercial spaces in this area need to balance the operational demands of high traffic with a design quality that justifies a price point above the mass-market options. YES Cafe was briefed to sit clearly in the quality bracket.

Design Challenge

Designing a commercial interior that can handle high customer volume operationally — clear circulation, efficient service flow — while still reading as a considered, quality destination. Speed and quality are typically opposed in F&B design; the brief asked for both.

Architecture Solution

WE Arsitek organised the spatial sequence around the service flow: entry, ordering, collection, seating — each step clear and unambiguous. The seating zones vary in character to support different dwell times. The material palette is clean and durable.

Outcome

A café near Kualanamu that serves its function at volume without losing its quality. YES Cafe holds its own as a destination in a developing commercial corridor.
